What Tom said, something about “it just fills in the blanks” for conversation — or something close to that? Anyway, my first immediate thought in response to that was, umm, isn’t that kind of what most human interactions have diluted down to…? So, are we, as a species, mutating as this AI thing we built evolves or…
I love that we are turning to philosophy because science could not give us a clear enough definition of consciousness. The search for that definition will redefine thought itself.
Mallory, I need to respectfully disagree that, at least currently, AI can act as a “loving parent” or anything along those lines. The reason human beings are (currently) considered the ‘parent’ in the relationship with AI is because we have something AI (currently) lacks—psychosocial skills. Without empathy, critical thinking, active listening, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, etc., AI will remain nothing more than a glorified Wikipedia that reflects the knowledge, experience, and biases of the individuals that created it. And, because psychosocial skills are no longer emphasized or taught in our education system, the humans creating and training AI will not be able to pass along those skills. It’s essentially an exercise in futility.
Although, I am wondering what a group of diverse neurodivergent individuals who are living authentically could do to make it a reality… I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Best not-thing I watched all day. Pumped for this.
That's a high bar! We'll endeavor to clear it.
